The Strangest Secret of Job Hunting
From Robbie on the January 10, 2015 Career Callings Radio Show:
When it comes to our work, we should ask ourselves a penetrating question: what can I produce for others so well that they will pay me handsomely for it? What service? What product? What insight do I bring? If you’re not happy with the income you are earning right now – either as an employee somewhere or even as a business owner struggling to make the business go – it may be because you aren’t producing enough value for others. Maybe you are in a job or business that doesn’t provide a whole lot of value to others in the first place and, therefore, doesn’t earn a whole lot of money. Maybe you are in a job or business that has the potential to provide great value to others, but you aren’t very good at it because God never designed you to do that kind of work; so, you don’t do it well, you don’t have a passion for it, and it shows in your earnings. If you want to earn more, you need to provide more value, and you can do that in a number of ways. You can increase your productivity by working harder or smarter or both. You can go back to school to be trained in a field of work – that, of course, is in line with God’s calling in your life – that pays more in the marketplace. If you like where you are and just want to get a little better at what you do so you can be worth more to your employer or to your customers, take some professional designation courses, ask your boss for assignments that will stretch you to become better, or take some personal development classes or read personal development books on your own time to gain skills that will make you more valuable.
The fundamental point of the Career Callings process is to help people understand how God designed them to bring maximum value to the world. The fundamental goal of the Career Callings process is to help people then find work that is in total sync with the value that God designed them to share with others.
